Amidst all the gloom and sadness of the pandemic, one of the greatest joys I experienced during the pandemic, was becoming a first-time parent. Having worked with Agile teams for over a decade, one of the most critical aspects of an Agile team is the retrospective. In this session, we will share how I used retrospectives as a parent to help raise our daughter better.

Key takeaways will include:

  1. Patience - Just like dealing with a child, being an Agile Coach requires ample doses of patience
  2. A newborn does not communicate with words, a capable Agile Coach will always look for non-verbal queues to understand the team. The majority of teams will be quiet during a retrospective and it is no surprise, first response from teams is “everything was great”.
  3. No two days are the same - solving wicked problems requires us to constantly adapt - just because last night my daughter slept at 7 does not mean it will happen today
  4. Love and Care - the team, just like your child, is depending on you to create a better culture, a better environment and you deliver it with love and care!
